Honestly, you'll probably spend most of your time controlling your system with the mobile app. As I said at the top, you can do everything from arming your alarm to checking your cameras and recordings to setting up automations. Want a lamp to turn on when your motion sensor is tripped and then turn itself off five minutes later? How about getting a push notification when a door or window opens? You can set up each of those in under a minute with a few taps.
Start with an equipment package and flesh it out with other devices. More importantly, Comcast has done away with a service contract requirement for Xfinity Home. You will still need to buy the equipment you can either purchase outright or in 24 monthly payments . A majority of customers opt for the payment plan option, an Xfinity spokeswoman said. If you buy your equipment, you can end service whenever you want. Xfinity's little cameras have excellent image quality indoors and outside.
What does silent arming mean?
Test by arming Smart Home Monitor, then clicking PIN number and A and see if Smart Home Monitor disarms. I’ve actually stopping using the keypad because it didn’t really fit into how I want to use smartthings. So I am probably going to list it on ebay again in the near future.
When set to Stay, your security system simply deactivates motion detectors, leaving the rest of your sensors active and primed for alert. Use the stay function on the keypad when you plan on staying home. When your alarm is in stay mode all the interior zones, such as the motion detectors, will be circumvented. This means the alarm won’t be triggered should you get up in the middle of the night for a glass of water.
What is stay mode?
There's a whole list of voice commands to control your smart home, view your camera feeds and find your keys or other stuff if you have a Tile tracker. It is particularly handy for turning off lights or adjusting your room temperature without getting off the couch or opening the app. Like the xFi integration, it's nice if you have Xfinity TV or are considering it along with Xfinity Home, but not a necessity. On the Select Arm State screen, Away mode is already selected.
And, tapping “Disarmed” will disable every Ring device. Night Stay will arm your exterior doors and windows and some of your motion sensors. You may want your downstairs motion to be armed and your upstairs motion to be disarmed when you are sleeping at night. The alarm system says “exit now” when armed in stay mode because the exit delay occurs no matter which arming mode you are using. When arming your alarm control panel in stay mode, your system will activate with the exception of the motion detectors.
What is the difference between ARM stay and arm away?
Difference is that with armed instant mode. The entry exit zones are completely avoided meaning like if your front doors. You can always check your keypad an indicator lights to see if the system is right arm. Green light means ready a red light under armed means the system is armed.
That's not to say things couldn't be better. While it's easy to set up new rules, there aren't a lot of recipes to choose from. For instance, the only thermostat-related one is for getting a notification if it gets too hot or cold in your home.
How do I silence my alarm?
It can't, for example, adjust temperatures based on motion detection. There are no camera recipes, so you can't do something like have lights come on if your front porch camera picks up activity. Speaking of cameras, Xfinity has made it more affordable to add them to your system. There used to be a per-camera per-month charge. Now, it's just $120 each for the cameras, and if you want 24/7 recordings for up to seven days, it's just a flat $10 extra per month for up to six cameras.
If you're looking to outfit an apartment or townhouse and aren't planning to bundle Home with other Xfinity services, you might be better off with a DIY kit. Otherwise, Xfinity Home is a simple way to combine smart home tech and security. You can also integratea large and growing list of third-party devices into your Xfinity Home system. The list includes smart light bulbs from Lifx, Philips and Sengled, Chamberlain MyQ garage openers, August, Yale and Kwikset locks and even Tile trackers. Product support does change, however, so you may want to check the list before you set up an install. I certainly have those features on my personal router and have had no issues using it with Xfinity's security equipment.
You can also skip the recordings and simply use the cameras to receive activity notifications. Past few days I’ve been trying to use the Xfinity keypads. I was able to get Centralite 3400 working but no matter what device handler I tried, Xfinity XHK1-TC never worked. Touching keypad and long beep after pressing correct PIN code and pressing A. Touching keypad and long beep after pressing correct PIN code and pressing A .
On SmartThings Classic app, My Home, Things, press the top right plus sign, Add a Thing, and wait for pairing to occur. I have this working with the SHM Delay Version 2.0 smartapp. Arm Stay is for when you are at home and awake. Security features are activated as in Arm Away, but Motion Sensors are not (so you don’t trip the alarm while you’re in the house). Press the button for the Armed mode you want to activate. Don't worry, this sounds complicated but it's just a simple browser setting.
This is the arming mode you should use when remaining inside your home to avoid setting off the alarm with one of your motion sensors. Armed Away is the arming mode you should use when leaving the home. To reiterate, you do not need Xfinity TV or internet service to get Xfinity Home.
If you need immediate police assistance, press and hold the Panic button for two seconds to send a silent alarm to the Central Monitoring Station. The Lock button flashes red to indicate an alarm was sent. When armed, when motion over keyboard, see red middle top and see green wireless symbol and red light at bottom of keypad. Test SHM Delay by opening designated door and try to trigger motion sensor, and check to see if takes 30 seconds before motion responds. Press “Instant” (which also doubles as the number “7” key.) Wait for the alarm to beep three times and the “Armed” LED light to turn red.
The dearth of recipes is a shortcoming but hardly a deal breaker. Cost is likely going to be the biggest deterrent for most people. Doing away with contracts helps and so does the flexibility to pay for the equipment upfront or in installments. Plus, $60 for the professional installation is money well spent considering all that.
